Opened in June 1977 in Arlington, Kona is listed by Guinness World Records as the oldest surviving commercial skatepark; its original snake and J-runs are still ridden alongside a pro bowl, vert ramp, mini ramp and street course.

Heads up · Private paid park, open noon to 9 p.m. and closed Mondays; the vert ramp needed a rebuild in 2024, so ask what is open.

Bring

  • Gusts 43 km/h → keep it low, and watch your board on the deck
  • Always → a helmet (required at many parks and every track), and pads for transition and dirt
  • After dark → we don't know if it's lit; bring a light

How the read works

We track the water on the ground hour by hour, starting two days back. Rain adds to it; sun, wind and dry air take it away (the forecast's evaporation figure, which folds all three together); frost locks it in. Concrete sheds most of a downpour and dries in a couple of hours on a good day. Dirt soaks it up and takes a day or more, and riding it while it's mud ruts it. It's a model, not a camera: shady corners and the bottom of a bowl hold water longer. Weather from Open-Meteo.
